I'd heard from Scott Armstrong that Steve Jobs had passed away.

I went to the Apple Store downtown simply to see.

Despite the KRON-4 news van outside, the bustle of commerce inside the store went on unabated.

I asked an Apple Genius behind the Genius Bar how she felt to be working in the store on this day.

"You mean in light of today's news?" she said.

I nodded.

Her mouth twisted to the side and her eyes focused farther away.

"Disappointed" she said, after a beat.

The store's din kept on. Its operation and the wares inside of it are a testament to one man's uncompromising aim.

About ten people aligned with occupySF.com protested near Embarcadero Station's entrance on this sweltering Indian Summer evening. The bullhorn's tinny caterwaul rebounded off of the concrete and stone.

There were rumors of public transit disruption along Market's underground due to protests. Nothing has been verified.

Downtown's streets are pocked with orange as fans make their way home from the last Giants game of the 2011 season. (They lost to Colorado.)
